Hi everyone! I’m Harry! I live in Anglesey, Wales with my wife. We have one (very cute!) cat called Lucifer, and an adorable pooch called Georgie. I am an active martial artist (especially enjoying Karate kata), but also enjoy reading, gaming, baking and exploring nature! I play violin (badly) and I also love snazzy ties and will make as many nerdy references as possible!

My Work:
I research interpersonal violence, which is violence between people. I work with North Wales Police to do this and have made a first of its kind tool to help people evaluate their skills in order to implement change

I started my PhD in September (2020), and have been researching interpersonal violence since September 2019 when I started my masters degree at Bangor University. Although interpersonal violence occurs frequently, there is very little research in this area. So, I started this research to help us become more knowledgeable in the area and conducted some really exploratory research in detection and perception of interpersonal threat.
I have been working to replicate my findings, as well as explore whether particular cues (for example invading personal space) are considered more threatening than other cues (for example, crying). I am currently writing up my research for my PhD thesis and for publication.

My Typical Day:
I get up early (which can sometimes be really hard!) and roll out of bed and into the office (one of the only good things to come out of lockdown) so that I can start work at 8.15am (the earlier I start, the earlier I can finish!). The first things I tend to do is open my e-mails to see if anyone needs anything from me! At the moment I am writing up my research and applying for jobs because I am at the end of my contract. Each week I also teach the university students and grade papers.

At the moment, my day can vary a lot! I roll out of bed and work from my home office (joint by my research assistant cat and dog)! I currently teach on a research methods module and grade papers so that takes up one day of the week. I am very laid back with this to have as low stress levels as possible! I absolutely love teaching, and it is great to hear what everyone else gets up to! When I’m not teaching or in meetings, I put some music on, and love a bit of James Blunt (I know, I know…). I also tend to spend one day a week camping out in my supervisor’s office so that we can have a chat and a laugh but also spur each other on!
At the moment, I am writing up my research, applying for jobs and chatting to you guys (which is by far the most fun!)
