My CV

Education:
Vasile Alecsandri National College, Romania- Natural Sciences degree with a focus on English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics;
University of Aberdeen (MA) Psychology;
University of Aberdeen (MSc) Health Psychology
-
Qualifications:
High school diploma from a natural sciences degree gave me the basic knowledge I needed for biological Psychology. I loved my Psychology degree but I was always drawn towards medical research and health so I followed it with a masters of science in Health Psychology. I then worked in Epidemiology and I now do a PhD in Public Health but I still focus on psychological concepts like mental health, sleep, attention, memory.
-
Work History:
As a student I worked as a waiter and a barista, which helped me make new friends and learn how to manage my time effectively.
After graduating from my masters degree I worked as a research assistant in an epidemiology department. I always believed I want to work in health-related research but this job made me sure and that’s why I applied for my PhD in Public Health.
-
Current Job:
PhD in Public Health

I basically have a long 3-year project that I am in charge of, with the help of my supervisors. When I started I first needed to look for courses that I need to understand what I have to do and every year I decide what other courses I need.
I always read what other scientists have found about the same disease. I sometimes present my own work in the department or at other meetings. I attend some online conferences (for now but I hope I get to travel to conferences too when COVID is over).
Twice a week I help with psychology labs where they can ask me questions about their own project. I was very worried about this but I am really enjoying helping other students.
-
My Typical Day:
At the moment I am in charge of my own day which is amazing! It’s all to do with my computer/laptop at my desk so I try to include walks or some sort of physical activity when the day is over. I also dress the way I want when I go into the office (but now with working from home it’s all comfy clothes unless I have a zoom meeting π )

At the moment I am in charge of my own day which is amazing! In summer I get up at around 8:00-8:30 but in winter with all the darkness I get up at 9:00-9:30. I always make myself a cup of tea and read some news and my emails first to start my day slowly. Then I make a to-do list of small goals for that day. Some days I need to read a lot, some to clean and analyse data, sometimes I have presentations to make and rehearse and for a week now I help with teaching for psychology students in year 1.
