I live in London but I am actually from Germany. I moved to the UK in 2008 to study psychology. I love meeting new people and I am passionate about improving health care. Studying psychology opens a lot of doors, so for a few years I worked with people with severe mental illness, to help improve their health through therapy and then on a research study to improving mental health treatment. I am now working on a clinical trial were we test out a new way of treating a rare eye disease.
Here is a picture of my first conference poster!
In my spare time I am all about exploring:
I also enjoy going on new walks, trying out new cooking recipes and crafts! I have been knitting a lot in lockdown

I have two jobs: For my PhD, I am researching ways in which we can support people with severe mental illness and their GPs to improve health care services. Some people with mental health illness cannot see a mental health specialist (like a psychiatrist), so they can only see their GP when they are not feeling well. GPs don’t have specialist mental health training, so I am looking at ways to support them. I do this by interviewing people with a mental health diagnosis (like schizophrenia) and I also interview GPs to find out what they think.
For my second job, I work as a Clinical Trial Manager on a study researching a new treatment for a rare eye disease. This means working in a big team of eye surgeons, lab technicians, statisticians and data managers. It is my job to get all the approvals (like ethical approval) in place that allow us to do the study, to discuss how we find participants for our study, and to monitor the participants to make sure they are being kept safe whilst they take part in the study.

My Typical Day:
During Covid I am working from home, but normally I would go to our offices in central London or to the hospital I work with. I have a few remote team meetings to discuss the study progress and to divide up tasks. I work from my desk most of the day, so I try to go for a walk every lunch time to get out and about!

What I'd do with the prize money:
During the pandemic, a lot of people’s mental health has suffered. I would like to go to schools to talk about emotions, wellbeing, and the role of psychologist and when to seek help!
