Hi LucyE, I would say my favourite part is that no day is the same! I get to meet a lot of different people, and it’s all project based work, so every day we progress (if only a little) and move through the different stages of a research trial – from coming up with a research study to getting the results.

Hi LucyE. I mentioned on my profile that I wear three hats – I have more than one job. I’m the founder of Psychreg (https://www.psychreg.org/), I’m a psychology YouTuber (Here’s my channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-bAnevpOibYFLbN5Yz272w/featured), and I’m also a PhD student (I research ways on how to improve resilience among adolescents in developing countries). What I particularly like about wearing these hats is that it gives me an opportunity to merge my skill set while helping adolescents to thrive and flourish.

One of my skills is creating online content (I designed my own website) and I’m passionate about resilience. Growing up in the slums of Manila, resilience played a crucial role in shaping me who I am today – both as a researcher, and as a human being.

That’s why for my PhD project I will travel (for at least two months) to Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines and spend time with adolescents talking about resilience – I will also explore their identities, aspirations, lived experience, and stories of struggles and recovery. I will use these data to design a blog intervention.

I think being given the opportunity to create a mental health intervention designed by adolescents for adolescents is a humbling experience – that’s my favourite bit.

If my blog intervention will be able to improve resilience – even at the slightest – among adolescents in developing countries, I will die a happy scientist!

It’s difficult to choose just one part as my favourite, because the thing I like most about it is the variety!
If I really had to choose one thing… probably the exploration, by which I mean exploring ideas and possibilities. Every child and young person has hopes and dreams for themselves. In my role, I help them and the people around them to explore what works for them and what is going to support them to achieve these hopes. Asking questions, researching new information, trying different ideas, thinking about things in a different way… these are the elements of exploration that I love about my job!

Hi Lucy, I’d say my favourite part is that I get to run research projects that I’m really interested in. I also get to meet and work with lots of lovely people at the same time!
